You’re invited: Grand opening of Echo Park Lake
More exciting news about Echo Park Lake – the official grand opening is happening this weekend on Saturday, June 15.
On Saturday the crew will start removing the fence that has encircled the lake during the past year and half of construction. While it will take a few days to have the fence fully removed, there will be a full day of celebration hosted by Mayor-Elect Eric Garcetti, the Department of Rec and Parks and the Bureau of Engineering for the Lake’s reopening ceremonies.
Featured speakers and performers will gather at the corner of Logan Street and Park Avenue just before 10:00 am.
Several businesses in the area of taking advantage of the opening with some great specials and celebrations – like Lot 1 Cafe’s “love & lotus – a free day/night of music” ($2 PBRs and bottomless mimosas!).
‘Echo Park’ is a very special place for me; at one time it was literally my back yard. I see it and it takes me back to my earliest childhood days thru my memorable teenage years (I’m now in my 50’s). I’ve seen the area go through many changes some good some not so good. I do hope now that so much time and money has been invested that ‘Echo Park’ becomes again the pride of our city. Thank you for giving it a face lift 🙂

I took the most wonderful photos of the lotus, the one year they were most abundant. The following year they were totally ruined and destroyed. I hope they return to they former glory and that those who use the park, will enjoy them instead of destroying them.

Echo Park has many memories for me. My father brought my brother and I, to this park when we were small kids. This park is where I learned how to ride a bike and roller skate. During the summer time, I would go swimming at the public pool (where I learned how to also swim). The Christmas parades were something to remember (as I participated in quite a few), then the Lotus Festival……….Wow! so many memories..I am glad that this park has been renovated. I wish I could go to the grand opening, but I live too far….
Hope it doesn’t get trashed again let’s keep this clean permanently
