7-eleven proposed for Glendale Blvd strip mall

A 2,000 square foot 7-eleven store is expected to go in to the small shopping mall at 1550 N. Glendale Boulevard, at the corner of Berkeley Ave. Last week we noticed a sort-of kiosk being removed from the parking lot (we think the tree is gone as well), making a little more room for parking at the quick mart. Plans for the new mart indicate it might be taking over both the old cash-checking and dog grooming retail spots, but I haven’t confirmed the details one hundred percent.

The store will be open 24 hours and will serve beer and wine. The mart joins an AM/PM across the street, and another 7-eleven on the West border of Echo Park on Sunset Blvd., amongst others.

Representatives will be present at the next Echo Park Improvement Association meeting to discuss details of the plans, starting 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 3. Everyone can attend these meetings, and they are located in Williams Hall at Barlow Hospital at 2000 Stadium Way. We’ll learn more about expected traffic impacts and opening timelines at this meeting.

1550 N. Glendale Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90026.

no, argh!! we do NOT need another convenience/chain store in the hood. does anyone else have an opinion on this?

This is literally right next door to my house. I am SO AGAINST THIS!! There is already a ridiculous amount of traffic on my tiny little street and this will only make it so much worse! And it will bring drunks and idiots (more of them) into my neighborhood… I just cannot believe they are going to do this! I am going to go to this meeting and voice my opinion strongly AGAINST this move.

Parking is already difficult in that strip mall… the flower shop and taco place will lose business if it is parked up with 7-11 folks. Not to mention the awful traffic issues on Berkeley at that intersection getting worse ….

This is going to cause A LOT of extra traffic at an already nightmarish corner. Who approved this? This is very very poor planning.

Taco Tuesdays are awesome at the taco shop in that center. Always a challenge to park there, but well worth it.

We NEED TO STOP THIS!!!THERE ARE ALOT OF SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE AREA THAT WILL BE EFFECTED BY THIS< THERE IS ALREADY ONE ON SUNSET NEAR ALVARADO!!
    WHAT CAN WE DO?

this project is 0.8 miles from the one on rosemont and sunset. its the same thing that there doing over in lincoln hights, kicking out family owned buisnesses calling them SHACKS! with no regards to the neighborhoods input. they have one on main and daly, now they want one near the lake that is also .8 miles from it with a 24hour proposal on Silig and main st, and the other one that is on north broadway and eastlake ave, all .8 miles from each other…I mean doesnt anyone see there pattern? and all with liquor license, like we dont already have enough with our already liquor saturated communities. they call it a convenient store…for who them? they dont even offer jobs to the community members, they have there staff already lined up…this just discusses me.

Does anyone have any information on how to stop this?? All this traffic everybody is talking about will be occurring DIRECTLY outside my house. I’m so upset, I’m going to have to move. I’m doing everything I can to make this neighborhood better and this is what the city does? Awesome.

I live very close to this development…TOTALLY unnecessary.. there is an am/pm that sells beer and wine ACROSS THE STREET.. also, there is alfredo’s market on the opposite corner.. that’s 3 out of 4 corners of the first intersection in echo park (from 5fwy and 2fwy) occupied by convenience stores..
Also, the 7-11 on sunset near alvarado (<1 mile away) has 3x the parking and is still badly congested.. I can't believe that 7-11 would even consider this location!.. you can't even make a left turn into it from 2south/glendale blvd..
you have to make a u-turn on scott.. lame for everyone
sounds like a LOT of parking and congestion issues for the immediate area ..
    bad move 7-11

The fight is not over yet, although 7/Eleven is in the process of building their store. They do not have a permit to sell beer and wine yet! The question will be decided by two zoning authorities. Presently it is being studies by the Associate Zoning Administrator at City Hall. Whatever he decides can be appealed by the losing side. Following that, it will be presented to a Zoning Authority in East Los Angeles. When it is denied again, 7/Eleven will have to wait probably 1 year to make another application. Please, neighbors. don’t lose heart!
