Spacecraft Lands in Echo Park

The other day, I noticed a facade emblazoned with the Spacecraft Group logo outside of the old abandoned theater on Sunset next to the Elf Cafe. Spacecraft Group is the construction and design firm behind a whole mess of Hollywood restaurants, bars and nightclubs. We emailed them, but at the moment, they can’t tell us what it is they’re working on. Let the speculation begin!

UPDATE: Both The Eastsider LA and NBC’s blog Feast wrote about this space a few months ago. According to them, this space will be home to a restaurant called El Camino. It should open in late 2010 or early 2011. We’re working on an extended piece about it and the community’s reaction to it, so stay tuned!

Oh please let it be a nice movie theater with a bar and a great mix of repertory and underground/experimental programing with some live music and theater in the mix too!
Not a hipster clothing store, night club, or church!
    Please

Anything is better than the empty space it’s been for years.

“In Echo Park, Spacecraft recently inked a deal to transform 2139 Sunset Blvd (the old Ramona Theater) into El Camino, a restaurant and bar with a possible 75 beers on tap.”

    Sorry, Nick. Another boring restaurant/bar…

A theater would have been really cool, but I’m still really excited about the restaurant. That place has been empty for far too long… it’ll be nice to see some life there. I just hope they take into account the economic diversity of the neighborhood… I’m not expecting Denny’s, but prices should be affordable. Fingers crossed.

I’m a regular at Tony’s Darts Away In Burbank. I Live closer to Echo Park than i do Burbank, but I love what these guys do. I spoke to the owner about his plans for the new place and here is what he told me. Beer prices will be the same as in Burbank. (which if you don’t know are by far the cheapest in town and an unreal selection of all California craft beers)
The food will be a fresh California salads and vegetables, pizzas and caseroles, with a variety of entrees. I eat at Tony’s in Borebank and the food is fresh, delicious and downright cheap. He has a concept of making his places very comfortable and welcoming and that includes affordable food.
Check http://www.tonysda.com to see what these guys are all about.
This will be a fantastic addition to the neighborhood.
    I can’t wait.

ho hum. sounds like a waste of space. I eat out most of the time, and drink a lot of craft beers. but I already have more pubs and restaurants at hand than I can keep up with. on the other hand, I’ve known people who have tried to make a theater space there in the 90′s and early 00′s. but the property owner was NUTS. apparently it was his unwillingness to do much with it that’s kept it empty. I wonder if it has changed hands recently? has anybody seen inside there lately?

Welp turned out that Mohawk Bend became a great success! Love that place, you know Spacecraft is building a restaurant at the grove. Anyone know what thats about? I think its next to the new Trader Joes , where is that?
